Still dating... myself!

My fella was sick this weekend, so we were not able to hang out as a) I wanted him to get better and b) he didn't want to get me sick. So we had our first weekend apart since our first date. While I missed him, I also enjoyed my hermit day on Friday, going to visit my Mexican family on Saturday, and going solo to Scarborough on Sunday. It's important for me to still have my "me" time. More on that later. First, some thoughts on this new relationship.

One thing being with J is teaching me is really simple - when a man wants you in his world, he'll let you know. So much of the last year of dating has been me wondering where I rank in my current beau's life. So much "does he even think about me at all?" Which is a horrible thing to be wondering when you're supposedly in a relationship. There has been none of that this time. He makes sure I know how he feels about me, texts me every day (and lets me know when its likely he wont be abke to text like normal), and that is SO refreshing. Concerning the past, I knew I had been accepting way less than I should have been, and my only regret is that I didn't break things off when respect was no longer being served, because... man.... this is amazing. Ok, that's enough gushing for now.

Oh, also, I'd like to make something clear. I am happy being single. I like me. I take myself on dates and buy me things, and i enjoy every min of it. Being in a relationship has never been a requirement for my happiness. That being said, I was happy single and now I'm happy in a healthy relationship. 😁 I've heard a lot of "as long as you're happy" and I just want everyone to know that I'm responsible for my happiness, not my fella. Tho he does contribute 😊

Friday i made my eggs in purgatory and watched movies after my bank adventure. I also got pumpkin empanadas for saturday and tried a new cardbordaux. It was quite good (big sipper merlot, if you are curious, in addition to my normal black box pinot grigio). Saturday's shrimp boil was AMAZING. I don't think I'd ever really been to one before. You take a pot of water and start putting things in, I think the sausage went in first, then the potatoes, then the corn, then the mushrooms, and finally the shrimp. It's all done at the same time and you just scoop when it's done. Sooooo good. I didn't get many pix, as sometimes it's nicer to be present in the moment, but I did take home leftovers! The shrimp were deveined but not peeled, so we got to eat with our fingers a bit!

Scarby solo was interesting and fun! I got to take my time and see some shows. Only thing was I may have taken "treat yo self" to a WHOLE new level. Some pix:
cheers!
jingle jingle. Wore boots in case of rain, but no rain happened.
puppet show... featuring the sphinx!
Adam crack. AKA the fire whip guy!
kamikaze fireflies. Fun to see, but i would NOT wanna do that.
more fire juggling
trained cats and rats. Hehe
another year at the faire
wanna pull the sword from the stone??

Now I'm cleaning my apt because it's overdue. Soooo not a fan but whatcha gonna do? Also, when transporting pickles be VERY sure it's a waterproof container. I didn't, they leaked, and I smelled pickles all this am at work. Between the stuff I have for wraps and the leftover shrimp boil, I'm eating GOOD this week. 😉 hope all is well for you, and thank you for reading about my adventures 😁

Weekend with the Fella

I think we tend to compare new things and new experiences to what we have historically known. Sometimes this a good thing – “oh this music festival is good, but not as good as the other one” or “Well, this job is a huge step up, thanks to X, Y, and Z, but I still miss N, and M from my last job.” That kind of thing. This happens with new relationships, too. One of the reasons why I’m trying not to gush about my few fella is because every time I compare this to the past I have to remind myself of 2 things. 1. This is still a new relationship, we’re both still on what’s considered our ‘best’ behavior. It’s the ‘honeymoon’ phase, if you will, so calm down. Also, 2. Usually what I want to gush about just shows how very low the bar has been for guys in the past, which kinda says more about me and my issues/traumas than it does about how wonderful my new fella is. Don’t get me wrong, I think this guy is fan friggin tastic! I’m glad we met and that we chose to get together. We’ve spent every weekend together and our dates have been fun, nerdy, adventurous, goofy at times, and comfortable. Like, I’m comfortable with him, spending time with him doesn’t drain me the way dating has done in the past. I like that we’ve been able to talk about things that are difficult to talk about with new people – frankly we’ve both had a less than stellar time with the online dating thing and it’s left some scars, for sure. What I will gush about is that we seem to be on the same page, looking for the same things, and we enjoy each other’s company. I think we have a pretty solid foundation, which is nice. He also reads this blog, so 😉 he he… I like you, honey. OK, gushing over. Now back to your regularly scheduled shenanigans.

This weekend he got to pick our date ideas because he won the bad movie face off. The thing is, we found, like, SUPER special releases of this movie, which has led us to believe that some people LIKE it. Which blows both of our minds because it was convoluted, we saw the ‘twist’ from a mile away, and the one thing that was surprising is when the princess is eaten by dragon babies. The movie was… Dragonslayer from 1981. Seriously – bad acting, weird story, the dragon was OK, but really the best part of the dragon was that Phil Tibbets was in charge of it and he’s also the guy who did the dinos for Jurassic Park. It’s a Disney movie that doesn’t really have the Disney logo anywhere on it, which leads us to believe it’s the bastard stepchild of the Disney mega-complex. I chose a movie called The Bride which looked promising. It was bad – it opens with Sting as Charles Frankenstein making the bride for the monster. There is an accident in the lab and the monster runs away (presumed dead) and the bride (who has NO scars, stitching, or physical deformities of ANY kind) lives with Charles as a lady who has amnesia. The monster runs off, meets a circus midget and joins a circus with him, gaining the name of Viktor. After the midget dies, the monster goes back to Charles to claim his bride, who has realized she is… different… than other ladies. Really, all the scenes with Sting and the bride are ridiculous, but I was SO invested in the monster’s adventures. We are planning a rematch for another ‘goblin mode’ day when we stay inside, watch movies, and eat snacks.
So, he decided to take me on a bookstore tour of Oak Cliff, which is an area in Dallas that I’ve never really been to. It’s an older neighborhood, but there’s recently been some development and it’s becoming more popular. We started with lunch with a couple of his family members (eep! But it went well), and then went to a super old bookstore. It didn’t have a/c, all the media in the front window were sun faded, but it was sooo cool because it had that used bookstore smell. Honestly, if there was going to be a bookstore with a cat, it would have been that one, but a cat would have been too smart to hang out in such a hot place. The next one was in the more ‘bougie’ side of Oak Cliff and had a coffee/cocktail bar in it. So we sat and enjoyed some cocktails, I bought a book, and the happy hour special was if you buy a book you get a free drink! It was very nice. It started storming while we were in the shop, and it was just a super cozy feeling. When the rain died down a bit we went to the last bookshop, which was more kinda ‘modern’ but still nice. I need to find the book “The Wager” at the library as it’s about a shipwreck/mutiny. Looks interesting, but I didn’t want to spend $30 on a book (I know, I’m cheap, but the next day was Scarborough, and we KNOW how much I can spend there). We got some food after that and then went to the Historic Texas Theater in Oak Cliff, which apparently is where they caught Lee Harvey Oswald after the Kennedy assassination, which was cool. The building was built in the EARLY 1900’s, all stucco and stuff. It now has 2 theaters – one upper and one lower. We were in the upper theater which wasn’t totally comfortable (old-style theater seats and NO leg room, unless you kick the person in front of you), but was fun, nonetheless.
books!
And booze. The purple one is the "daytrippers grog" and the other is "between living and dreaming."
Historic theater
so cool
Random dude walking. Lol

Saturday, we had to kill about 20 mins before we could register his car to park, so we went to a retro game store, then dropped off his car. We spent all day at Scarborough Faire, and it was the FIRST time he had ever gone. We did the usual stuff, had some drinks, ate a gyro and a scotch egg, talked to/flirted with vendors, complimented people on their outfits, bought some pepper jelly and flavored honey, came home, watched Demolition Man (and napped a bit), then he went home, and I went to bed. It was a perfectly lovely weekend and is a good example of our kinds of dates.
Beer and a scotch egg

We have a good time together, it’s nice. I mean, it’s been a month of dating, almost 2 of knowing each other, and he hasn’t ghosted, pressured me, made me uncomfortable, left me in a movie theater 5 mins into a movie, or accused me of trying to make him sad when I tell him I’ve got plans that don’t involve him! Seriously… I’ve been thru it. Then again, so has he.

I know I’m talking about my fella a lot here, but other than work he’s the real ‘news’ going on in my world right now! Work continues as normal; we will have a follow-up TJC visit any day now. I’m working on a grant which is driving me bonkers, and another grant which should be just fine. I got a settlement check from some lawsuit against TurboTax, but it won’t deposit via my mobile app, so I’ve got to find some other way of cashing it. Next weekend A and I are going to Scarby, so I’m looking forward to spending time with her, and then I have a dog/housesitting gig the following weekend (playing with the schnauzers). It’s gonna be a busy start to the summer, and I’m enjoying every second of it!!

Some of my Favorites

I love living in Texas for many reasons, but the biggest one is because so many of my favorite people live here. Now I even have a new favorite person (my fella). So here's a few pix of my latest round of fun times.
My bestie came up and we were able to hang out! I even gave her the presents I'd bought her on 3 trips (Santa fe, Lawrence, and Portland).
Nice drinks at the hotel, too!
My fella got me a fun mimic Keychain. He said it's cute and creepy, so he figured I'd like it. The guy gets me!
A and I love to meet at Rio mambo in weatherford for drinks and nachos. This time she brought a surprise..
SWEET PUPPER!!! Cake got a haircut.
This past weekend he brought me another gift, before our shark watching marathon:
HES REVERSABLE!!!

This past weekend my fella and i had a lovely time. We had a 'goblin' day when we watched our bad movies and had pizza and snacks. It was so comfortable and nice. He won the bad movie contest... I got too invested in the story of Frankensteins monster and his friendship with a circus midget (the bride with Sting, look it up). The next day we went to half price books, had tacos, and went to an atreyu concert.
SUCH TACOS! He got paneer, Carne asada, and fish n chips, I got Buffalo chicken and a Cuban taco. Their kick ass margaritas are good, too.
LYLVC (pronounced 'lilac'). AMAZING band, that girl can SING.
This band was from Slovenia. Also great.
Point North. Also good.
ATREYU!!! I love this band. They are always so entertaining and fun. Also my fella didn't seem to mind being hit by my hair when I was headbanging, which was nice.

I stayed up WAY past my bedtime, but it was amazing and he was so sweet to handle the driving duties in downtown dallas. His fiat is great for parking in high-traffic areas, and we have a great time together. 😁

So that's all I've been up to. Enjoying time with old friends and enjoying getting to know my fella and enjoying finding out all we have in common/how compatible we are. I won't bore you with gushing over my fella... if you want to hear that, call me 😉 hehe.  Much love to all, and will try to continue to keep you updated on all my shenanigans. Hugs and MUAH! 😘

Update

Where the heck did April go?! I feel like I lost a whole month through being super busy. Where to start, where to start. OK, we're going to do the update with dating, then the WA trip, and then house-sitting. Then I'm going to tell you all about the new undies I'm officially a HUGE fan of. Exciting, right?

The dating thing: I gave up for a few weeks after the last fella blocked and ghosted me. It's still amazing to me how quickly someone can go from "I love you, you're the most amazing woman ever, I want to make this happen" to... crickets. Then I thought about trying one of the myriad websites yet again and it gave me the heebie jeebies. So I decided to try a site that I'd seen ads for on FB. It's called Coffee Meets Bagel. Their schtick is you set up your profile, give them the parameters of what you're looking for and they will give you 12 options at noon each day. You work through those options, liking or not as you see fit and (just like other sites) if you both liked each other, you match. The chat room is open for one week and then all messages are deleted and the room is closed. That gives you one week to decide if you're going to move to another messaging service, meet IRL, or let them fade away. I decided this was my last (free) effort. If nothing came from this, I was going to budget for paying for EHarmony or Match. Well, surprisingly enough I did in fact meet someone. He is my kind of nerdy, wasn't put off by my goofy jokes or spooky vibe, likes the same kinds of movies as me, and is even willing to go to an Atreyu concert with me. So we decided to make things official. That's right, I've got a new fella. We've been out twice and both seem like we're looking for the same things. I'll keep you all updated as things progress.
art fest: date 1
Star Wars store: date 2

The WA trip was WAY fun. It was lovely spending time with M & M and also spending lots of time with Kit. She's a sweet pupper, even when she's being a little bitey butt. Leavenworth, WA is a really cute little Bavarian style town with some GREAT food and drinks. If you go, I highly recommend the Dirty Face Amber from Icicle Brewing and the Snowmageddon Prepper from some brewery in Seattle. REALLY good brews. The best part about the bratwurst places was they had serve yourself saurkraut and a HUGE selection of condiments from the usual mustards to specialty ones and even curry ketchup (which goes on the currywurst, trust me it's great). Mo spent the whole time feeding us, and I'm pretty sure I gained a good 5-10 lbs. We had a great night of playing pool with the neighbors and laughing a LOT. I also got to read a BUNCH, which for me is a GOOD vacation. The one bad thing was I had jet lag for like a week and a half when I got back to TX.
Portland day 1
Chehalis day 9 😁

House-sitting for the head of cardio was much fun. I am able to add sheep and peacocks to the list of animals that I now have experience taking care of. Then there were the usual dogs, cats, and cows. Other than the one sheep that wanted to head-butt me, and start a mosh pit at WAY too early in AM, the animals were sweet. The schnauzer was (of course) my favorite. SUCH a sweet pupper! He didn't appreciate my schedule being different from his. Turns out, I was keeping him up past his bedtime (830pm) and I wanted to sleep in when he wanted to get up (7am). But all was good and we got along just fine. I have to say, part of the pride I take in my pet sitting is when the pets go from sad "where's my people? I miss my people" to "OOOh, we having a party while mom and dad are gone!" It's so cute! I did really want to bring a certain kitty indoors, but I was explicitly told that she was NOT an indoor kitty anymore.
from super sad
to "you are my bed"
"please, please let me in!"
5 sheep, one sheep dog... which is which!?!?
Bonnie and clyde, Clyde is very pretty

Now... not that I'm planning on doing this often but, I'd like to tell you about some undies I purchased. They are called "Undersummers" and their thing is that they are meant to be worn underneath dresses and protect the wearer from... you guessed it... chub rub! For those of us whose thighs just LOVE to be together and won't let ANYTHING keep them apart (for long). Usually the problem I have in the summer with wearing dresses is twofold. First, the layering can get to be a tad bit warm. Secondly even bike shorts sometimes will ride up throughout the day, causing me to have to try (ever so discretely) to to pull them down without revealing that I am in fact wearing them. Also, the bike shorts can be a bit tight on the legs as they try to stay in the same spot, which is not always super comfortable, as I'm sure you can imagine. Yes, I've tried antiperspirant... it doesn't work for me. Enter: Undersummers. These look like shorts with lace on the bottom. They are soft, comfortable, and meant to be worn as underwear. That's right, kinda like lady boxers I'm guessing. The best thing for me is that they don't have a seam on the inside of the legs (you know the seam that ALWAYS wears out before anything else on any pair of pants/jeans/shorts/leggings that I own). I'm hoping that means they'll last longer as they are NOT cheap. Like, Not. At. All. I've talked myself into these over 2 years because I didn't want to justify the expense. Now. All that being said, I tried them out on Sunday and Monday. I wore skirts both days, walked all around Fort Worth on Sunday, all around work on Monday. Not once did they creeap up on me. I had to get past the initial weirdness of the feeling of wearing boxers, but now I think I'm officially a fan. You know, for days when I'm wearing skirts. I will be sure to keep you updated on how long they last. After all, I still don't want to have to spend a ton of $ every year just to keep the chafing from happening. So far, I would endorse these for my other thunder-thighed friends.
(No pix, Google em 😉)

So thanks for still reading this and being interested in what's going on with me. Work is still wonderful, still love my job and my co-workers are great. I'm excited I get to see my friend A on Thurs, having tacos and margaritas with the fella on Fri, and then I get to see my bestie and her hubby on Sat and Sun! It's gonna be a GREAT weekend. It's also nice to be home again. I think I spent maybe 10 days in my apt last month, I'd like to spend more than that here in May. Hehe. Anyway, I hope life is treating all of my wonderful people well, I love you all bunches and I'm sending all my love to you from Texas!! MUAH!   😘
