Living overseas can be quite a treat. Sampling local delicacies, even more so. Now, I don't think I'm ever gonna do the Indiana Jones monkey brains thing, but one of our co-teachers brought in something to share. It is apparently called Hodugwaja. It was SO GOOD! Red beans made into a sweet paste, topped with a walnut and wrapped in some kind of pastry dough. That's right - sweet red beans are a thing here. Who knew?
Now that being said, nothing can beat some good ol' American dessert. That's where a treat from Mom came in. I took the triple chocolate mug cake mix over to J's after we had dinner at Quattro (great pasta place down from my apt) on Wed. O.M.G. That stuff should be called 'Death by Chocolate.'
I was originally a little scared that we'd need an over-sized mug. This was not the case.
So cute, so good.
That is my happy chocolate face. We had to have them over at J's because I don't have a microwave. It's ok, I didn't have on in Glen Rose, either. Also both J and S have one, and there's one at work.
As you can see, it's empty all the way to the bottom. Hehehe... and probably some went to pad my own bottom!! LOL
So the week has been same old, same old. I love my first class on MWF because the kids are so precocious and at least one always tries to get me to stay near her. We've only got 2 months left with these classes, then we'll have new classes and at that point it's only 6 months before I come home! I'm going to miss some things about Korea - bagging my own groceries comes to mind - but one thing I won't miss is carrying my groceries home on public transport!
I was a bag lady on Saturday coming home from Costco. That's right - I'm able to carry home everything I get FROM COSTCO! LOL - I have nuts, brussles sprouts, a bag of bacon crumbles, gummy bears, and candy in the bag on my front. The gummy bears and candy are for the kids - bribing them with candy really does work to get them to turn stuff in. The other bag has my apples and my salad that I decided would be my dinner today. I had to go cuz I was running out of my mixed nuts - they have them in Korea, but they are unsalted which is just... wrong to me.
After Costco, I went to a smaller mart near home (called OK Mart) and got things that I didn't want to get in bulk. Funny enough, it turns out that they sell eggs in packs of 10. Guess it makes sense that I only have 7 slots in my fridge door for them.
I think my fridge is a little full. The thing is, it's misleading. I think my coffee is taking up a lot of space, and then it turned out that I don't need to refrigerate the bacon until I open it. I'm planning on making a brussels sprout and bacon hash with egg thing for J on Wed. I also wanted to get us juice to go with it, and will probably make some biscuits to go with it (thanks again, Momma). I was thinking of also making brownies and putting some of my hot jam on top (strawberry with jalapenos). Hopefully it'll be a good mix of sweet and spicy.
So yeah, not much is going on. I've been on a country music kick lately, next weekend is my island weekend so I'm looking forward to that. Had my doc visit and thyroid levels are good - even better, so was my blood sugar!
Happy Independence Day to all my American peeps. I'm having a low-key day of being home and possibly having a Jeff Goldblum fest - ID4, ID resurgence, Jurassic Park, and The Lost World. Hehehe. Hugs from across the world - MUAH! :*
