The best kind of Friends

You know that feeling when you meet up with someone that you haven't seen in AGES but it seems like nothing has changed?  Like, yes, one of you got married and has kids and travels for work and has a house and is living their best life, and the other is single, has traveled the length and breadth of the world, lives in an apt, and is living her best life.  Your lives have diverged, though through social media you've been able to keep up on each other's shenanigans and comment on pictures and posts from time to time.  A lot has happened to you both but when you get together there's no awkward "let's tally up and see whose doing better."  There's just "I'm so happy we were able to get together, it's been too long!"  I treasure these kinds of friendships because (let's be honest) I'm pretty much rubbish at keeping up with people and checking-in (in person, anyway) to see how things are going.  I'm much more the "oh look, so-and-so posted more pix of their adorable kids!" kind of friend.  Tho I am becoming more of the "I saw this meme/thing and thought of you, so I'm sharing it" kind of friend.  My friend from college came to Dallas for work and we got to meet up on Wednesday.  It was so fun.  I got to introduce a new person to the wonders of Anamia's Tex Mex and remembered why downtown Dallas during the day is not my friend (I get home by way of a specific building when it's lit up at night - during the day I can't find it and have to resort to (UGH) GPS).  And I got to see the lobby of a rather upscale hotel - a far cry from the Motel 6 and Super 8's that I stay in.  It was across the street from what could only be a historic apartment building and I have to admit wondering how much rent is THERE.  Turns out she comes to TX for work fairly often, so further visits are certainly possible and one day I'll get up to visit her and meet her hubby and kiddos.

I love WY, but it's nice being somewhere that's slightly more accessible and commonly traveled.  I'm totally stoked because J (my friend from Korea) is going to be in the country next week and she'll be within driving distance!!  I love when international friends come visit (and thank God she's not up in NY or over in CA or somewhere else that's too far for a day trip).  Sometime this fall my friend from Bristol will be here to visit her mom, so I'll get to see her, too!  Woot Woot!
