After the Hanok village we went to the bamboo forest and had dinner. Again, I took off on my own to see the bamboo and commune with nature. At dinner is when I got to know some of my fellow travelers.
It's so cute - if you make a wish and get a coin into the thingie on the side, it'll come true. I didn't try cuz you know, I didn't have any change.
So pretty as the sun was going down.
Of course there had to be a good place for a lookout over the country.
Such a pretty country.
Off I go... I took the philosopher's trail and the Confucian trail... but not the lovers lane one.
I find it funny how people just HAVE to carve into things.
I wasn't getting good selfies, so I went with the bride of Frankenstein look here.
Sometimes you just gotta look up.
Stairs... always stairs.
View from the top.
Funky bamboo
I wandered a bit off the beaten path and found a lounge!
My 6:00 morning was getting to me.
The view from my lounge chair.
So relaxing
View the other way
I'm such a rebel, I took off the mask for a bit. Hehehe... one good thing about traveling with a mask, when you take a nap on the bus you save your fellow travelers from seeing this face!
Then I continued my walk and found this beautiful little park!
Complete with koi pond
pretty trees
and a friggin' fairy tale looking cottage and such!
I love this pic of the trees and pond, cuz that red one is just... I mean... I love the colors of the fall.
So peaceful and serene.
The fishies in the koi pond... they are still so small, but well trained cuz they know what it means when someone is standing above them.
Back on the trail.
View from outside an art gallery.
Some of the art in the art gallery - I love these screens, they make it look like it's snowing.
Me outside, again trying to NOT look like a crazy person and only kinda succeeding. I was just not happy with the selfies that day.
Where there is bamboo you will find pandas. At this point I decided to wander around the park beside the bamboo forest. I had also gotten a mango smoothie from the coffee shop and was very much enjoying that.
I mean, lots of people but still so nice and peaceful.
Good colors as the sun goes down on my Saturday of fun.
Found a place to act like a creeper and take more pix of random strangers.
I don't know what the story here is, but bamboo is fun.
When the sun set, it turned out that the moon lights up. It was a popular spot for the instagrammers in the trip and watching people pose on it was one of my personal highlights of the trip. The kids were the most fun.
Another pic cuz that's how I roll.
Started having fun playing with the light.
Good pic of the sign from across the street.
Again, be sure to look up from time to time.
I swear, I'm not contemplating arson... no, really, I promise.
They did a lot of artistic stuff with the bamboo, right?!
Another pic of the tiny bit of landscaping on the other side of the pandas.
Perfect fall colors, wouldn't you say?!
I really liked this area.
Had to try to get a pic of the sunset.
Or maybe 2
Or 3... hehe
So not only did they do bamboo wine, they also did bamboo beer. I got 2 of the dunkels and had one at the pension we stayed at. It was decent, but you couldn't really taste any bamboo. Apparently they make the wine and beer out of the leaves of the bamboo.
Dinner - I still can't identify most of this stuff and the ladies I was sitting with were laughing at my new game - mushrooms or snails?! This is where I got to chat with a teacher on the Army base, a lady who works for the DOD, an Egyptian lady and her daughter, a teacher from Romania, and a teacher from the states. We all kinda bemoaned the fact that Covid has ruined travel plans for all of us and how hard it is for some to see their families. The lady with the DOD said she hadn't seen her hubby for a year, which I can only imagine sucks really bad. The food was good, and I showed this pic to one of my students who also couldn't identify most of it, so I felt vindicated. IF you are wondering about the bamboo things with the napkins over them, that was the rice. It was made in the bamboo which gave it a different kind of flavor. This is also where we tried the bamboo wine which I liked so much that I had to buy 2 bottles of it. Hehe.
After dinner we headed to our pension where my roomie was a youngun from the DC area. We went outside so I could enjoy my beer and we met 2 more Americans (Wisconson and Minnesota) and a Welsh guy from Cardiff. It was a good evening. Then I took a shower and went to bed. Stay tuned for Sunday :)
