If you have seen anything on the news or read this blog lately, you know that S Korea has upped their social distancing measures. I've been online chatting with some guys and I met one who is a bona-fide extrovert. I asked him how he was coping and the gist of the convo was 'not well.' It lead him to actually take a personality test (16 personalities, good site, super fun) and he sent me one of the results - 100% extrovert, 0% introvert. I laughed. I re-checked mine: the Architect. Apparently it's one of the most rare personality types, double so if you're a woman. It's official, I'm a rare person!
Basically this time around I'm meeting guys for the convo and if, once some restrictions are lifted, we meet up and hit it off, then great. If not, no big deal either. I have met at least one who is well read and who recommended a couple of books for me to read. I'm rather excited to get started on them because they are very international-relations oriented. Another guy has a cat, so I get pictures of a fluffy orange kitty. Another guy and I actually talked on the phone, which was ok but didn't really spark much for me. I'm having more fun with it this time around - maybe because I haven't put any internal pressure on myself. I'm just going to be me and see what happens. At least one guy and I were able to quote Firefly back and forth to each other (his profile had a pic of him in a Bobba Fett helmet), which was also fun. Thanks to Corona it's almost required to keep things casual and at a distance, so it's almost like now's a great time for me to shine. LOL. I do have to tell you about my recent 'unmatching' experience. This guy suggested that we have kids together and you can believe that had me running for the hills. Fun development, I told him that I think we are looking for different things and should call it and he got super insulted - I was accused of 'throwing our friendship away.' Yeah, cuz he was just looking for a friend to have babies with. Nice guy, too, offered that I wouldn't even have to work, I'd just have to give him 2 kids. Silly me for not jumping on that train, eh? What is it with guys who think you can just skip all the getting-to-know-you stuff and jump right into the domesticity?
The coffee shop now that everything is take-out orders only. I think this was the saddest sight I've seen since all the Corona started. At least I can still get my 4-shot Americano (when fasting) or my 4-short Vanilla Latte (when I'm not). On Tuesday I got the email from the company that I was going to go hiking with this weekend - with the social distancing measures the hike has officially been cancelled. Sigh... ah well, I'm sure they will offer it again sometime in the near-ish future.
We started our new classes this week and it all went pretty well. I've got some old kids and some new kids and one class that I had before. It's nice to have some kids who already know how I teach. On the other hand, I wonder what kind of reputation I have. I know I've got a rep for being strict with the writing notebooks... am I also the 'mean' teacher of April, I wonder. So Monday started the official countdown - in 6 months the new semester will end and I will be homebound. Here's to automatic coffee makers ;)
The new teacher isn't here yet, so we are covering her classes until she arrives. Otherwise, it's business as usual. I'm looking forward to enjoying some days off at the end of Sept/beginning of Oct. Part of me wants to go somewhere, a bigger part of me is ok with just staying around home, maybe going to Seoul to walk along the Han river, and just relax. Maybe find some cafes and food places to enjoy.
I have to share - in the Intermittent Fasting (or IF) community, we like to share pictures of our food that we call 'window-worthy.' You see, when you only eat every now and then, you want to be sure it's worth it when you do (food disapointment is even worse when you've waited ALL DAY and then it's sub-par). So partly to mitigate any concerns anyone may have, and partly to brag about how good my food is, here's what I had for lunch on Tuesday. It's a greek cranberry wrap from Salady, mixed nuts, dried sweet potato sticks, and seedless grapes (happy accident there, had not clue they were seedless). I also had a vanilla latte and some dark chocolate with chili pepper in it.
Window-worthy indeed. Since it was Tue, I also had dinner which was roasted broccoli and carrots with bbq sausages and bread. Today will only be dinner, and I'm cooking brussels sprout hash for J and myself. It's a one-skillet meal of sauteed brussels sprouts, bell peppers (or capsicum for my international friends), and bacon bits, then you make holes in the sprouts and crack in 4 eggs, cover until the eggs are cooked. then serve. It's really good, and J loves it. Remember friends, make your meals colorful!
Much love from Korea, stay safe, until we meet again! :*
